I was called Cricket by family members when I was young because I couldn’t sit still. My dad used to say I had a bug up my butt. When I was old enough to drive, I had a gasoline ass….always something with my butt…Now that I think about it, when my mom always asked my dad where he was going, he used to reply, “Up Mike’s ass to get a milkshake.” I guess that meant, “You don’t need to know, bitch.” Well, I’m just guessing. Anywho, there were a lot of references to butts..
I really haven’t been anywhere. Not like my children. Adam has studied abroad in France, and Morocco and went to visit Alex in Mexico and Japan. Last summer he visited 6 European countries and climbed up part of the Matterhorn. Alex studied abroad in Spain and Mexico, and is teaching English in Japan right now. She went to visit South Korea last month. I just got my passport.
The farthest north I have ever been in North Bay, Canada. My dad used to go fishing up there all the time, and we got to go along for awhile. We took a trip south all the way to Acapulco, Mexico when I was a sophomore in high school with my best friend and her family. That trip was fantastic. That’s my “out-of -country” experiences.
When I was married, I wanted to go on a lighthouse tour. We were going to start up in Nova Scotia, where they have a high concentration of lighthouses, and travel along the coast and hang out in Key West, Florida as our stopping point. Well, hell, I got divorced. So, what to do? Do I keep arm chair traveling, or do I just get out there on my own and do it?
I’ve decided to travel.
I really want to travel. By myself. I think that it would prove my independence on some level. I know I don’t have to prove anything to anyone, but I think it would be great for me to do this… So, I have decided to plan a trip across part of Canada on a train. Train travel. A locomotive lady. Our family went from PA to Spokane, Washington by train when I was young, and it was fantastic. So, I am going to start gathering travel guides and put together a plan..But, I will have to wait until the cat passes (she looks at me like she knows I am writing this…), so right now, I can only dream train travel.
I am thinking that I may fly into Calgary, Alberta, Canada and then start from there. I don’t know if I could handle being on a train from Toronto to Vancouver. I wonder if they have internet access on trains? I could blog and take pictures…wow, I am impressing myself.
